Taken as literally as possible, then, nam myoho renge kyotranslates to something along the lines of “I devote myself to the Wonderful Dharma of the Lotus Sutra”. It can also be interpreted in a slightly less subservient way, as a form of alignment or activation. It’s the same root of the more familiar “namaste”, which means “I honour the divinity within you”.
